McMaster Metal Design is a family-owned company established in 2008 in Columbus, Wisconsin. What began as an idea for a hobby so there was something to look forward to after retirement has slowly changed into a way of bringing an entire family together into a small business venture with very little thought now being given to retirement!

The McMaster Metal Design Family:

Dianna: So far, Dianna has been the accountant and financier for the business. She also currently does a great deal of the CAD drawings for various projects and has been the driving force behind most of the developments at MMD.When she is not busy at her day job or making decisions for MMD, Dianna has time to spend on her biggest passion of spending time with her family, in particular her two grandchildren.During the week, Dianna is a full time accounting Manager with a construction firm and has been working in accounting for more than thirty years.

Mike: When asked, Mike always says, “I’m the cutter.”However, Mike is also the mechanical genius who put everything together and knows what makes everything tick.He not only put the torch cutting table together, he also and designed the water cooling table underneath.Mike also does most of the painting and finishing on our projects. He works full time as a refrigeration mechanic for the U.S. Forest Products Laboratory in Madison and also likes to tinker with everything at home.We don’t remember ever having to call a repair service of any kind to fix something since we haven’t found out yet what it is that Mike can’t fix!

Jamie: The used-to-be a McMaster of the clan is the brains of the operation. Jamie has a Bachelors degree in Biology from Lawrence University. She is currently the laboratory manager of a cancer research laboratory under the direction of a pathologist at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison and has co-authored two papers that have been published in peer-reviewed journals. When not at the hospital Jamie is the mother of 2 children (Jenna, age 4 and Dean, age 8 months) when they aren’t whisked away by Dianna for some “grandma time”. Jamie does all the organization of shows and advertising materials and will help maintain the website as we continue to expand our gallery of art and sign projects. She is just now getting into the CAD drawing side of the business and we hope she will be an excellent artist for us as well.

Matt: He took away Jamie’s last name but we will forgive him because we like him anyway! Matt graduated from Bethel College in Minnesota with a Bachelors degree in Business. Matt is currently a stay-at-home Dad so we have asked a lot of him in addition to his day-to-day routine with the kids. Matt is our Marketing Go-To guy and does a great deal of the correspondence with other professional organizations. We depend on Matt to figure out which shows and sales we should attend that would be most beneficial to MMD. He is a great sales person and people really enjoy talking to him.

Justin: At 29, Justin is the baby of the family but by no means is a slouch when it comes to the CAD Program. Justin had a year of CAD in college and was the sole designer behind our very first ranch sign as well as our first farm sign. Justin currently lives in Montana and works full time as well. Justin will continue to design for us and seems to have a very creative artistic side that we never knew he had. We are pleased he wants to join in the endeavor to create a business that the whole family can be a part of. Justin’s efforts from afar have been invaluable to us as we all strive to learn and grow in this business. He has definitely shown us how to maneuver more efficiently in the CAD program and helped us to gain insight as to what everything does, cutting down our learning time considerably.
